The Training Program in Genetics (TPG) seeks to educate and train its students to have a broad understanding of the utility and power of genetics in research areas ranging from molecular biology to organismal biology, population biology, and disease-centered studies.
By bringing together students and faculty from several departments to share their ideas and data as well as organize genetics-themed events for the broader Yale community, we expose students to diverse disciplines in a way that reflects the multidisciplinary nature of genetic analysis in modern biomedical research. You can learn more about the events and workshops TPG faculty and students participate in and organize on our “TPG Events” page.
The TPG also seeks to prepare students for leadership positions in scientific research and science-related careers. We achieve this by not only supporting students’ intellectual development through discussion of their data, but also by providing skills-development workshops, creating opportunities to teach in the Yale undergraduate course “Biology, the World, and Us,” and organizing the annual TPG Symposium. These activities allow our students to develop quantitative data analysis skills, as well as broadly transferrable skills like communication, organization, and leadership. Our TPG alumni have gone on to many research-intensive careers in academia, industry, and the nonprofit space. You can learn more about TPG alumni careers and find additional career development resources on our “Career Development” page.
